Please join GSAS Dean Carlos J. Alonso and Columbia Global Reports Director Nicholas Lemann for a special reception and conversation to celebrate the publication of Left Adrift: What Happened to Liberal Politics by Timothy Shenk.
Complimentary drinks and light fare will be served.
In Left Adrift, timed to the presidential election, Shenk surveys the past half-century's history of the Democratic Party, and similar parties worldwide. All these parties are caught up in long-running internal debates about whether to emphasize economic or cultural issues, and in competing with conservative parties for the loyalties of working-class voters. Through the life stories of two rivalrous, globe-trotting strategists, Shenk tells a compelling story that also provides a sweeping overview of politics today.
Left Adrift is published by Columbia Global Reports, a non-profit publishing imprint, directed by renowned journalist Nicholas Lemann, that commissions authors to produce short but ambitious books of original thinking and on-site reporting from all over the world.
A Q&A and book signing will follow. Left Adrift will be available for purchase at the event.
