The adoption of the Designated Hitter by the National League means fans will see a different style of baseball at Nationals Park and throughout the League this season, i.e., more bang for the buck; more opportunities for the long ball; fewer sacrifice bunts; and fewer double-switches. Nelson Cruz, recently signed as the Nats’ DH, is a proven run producer. In 2021, with Minnesota and Tampa Bay, Cruz logged a combined 32 home runs and 86 RBIs.

The threat of Cruz, even at age 41, batting behind Juan Soto could mean that Soto, the 2021 league leader in bases-on-balls (145) and on-base percentage (465.), will see more hittable pitches and turn them into homers and extra base hits. In addition to Cruz, the Nats have added veteran Second Baseman Cesar Hernandez and reliever Steve Cishek, and welcomed back fan favorites reliever Sean Doolittle, starter Anibal Sanchez and outfielder Gerardo Parra from the 2019 Championship Team. Join your fellow Columbians for an afternoon of baseball and root for the Nats from lower deck seats behind the 3d baseline.

MetroGreen line at the Navy Yard station (half a block away); Orange, Blue or Silver lines at the Capitol South station (15min walk)
